1.Maintain good personal hygiene
This may sound like a tall order for some men (LOL..), but it is important for both physical and emotional wellbeing. Bathing or showering daily, changing clothes daily, wearing clean clothes all the time, buying and using key toiletry items like deodorants, mouthwash and other essentials are very important practices that help you to maintain good hygiene.
2. Wash your face daily
Washing your face twice daily, in the morning and before going to bed is a good foundation for a simple skincare routine. Washing your face morning and night helps remove impurities and can reduce the risk of clogged pores and breakouts associated with accumulated dirt in your skin.
Do not use harsh soaps on your facial skin, use gentle cleansers and warm water for a gentler and thorough cleaning.
3. Moisturize your skin daily
This is not just for the ladies, yeah, you should also moisturize your skin to make your skin look and feel healthy and reduce skin dryness. It is either you use a moisturizer of choice or that suits your skin type (Mayo Clinic) or use moisturizing creams or lotions.
4. Use sunscreen daily
Your skin is exposed to various adversities that include the sun. Exposure to the sun makes your skin prone to skin cancer and premature aging. Sunscreen helps create a barrier between the sun’s UV rays and your skin protecting it, preventing damage, preventing wrinkles and reducing risk of skin cancer. It is supposed to be used daily and even when you spent your day indoors, not only during the summer as most people think.
The Mayo Clinic recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher when spending time outdoors.
5. Practice good oral hygiene
You do not need to find it difficult to smile and laugh freely in public because of poor oral hygiene. Good oral hygiene is a critical grooming practice that is also a building block to overall health and wellbeing.
Always brush teeth twice daily, floss your teeth to get rid of food residues in between your teeth and regularly visit the dentist for thorough cleaning and for check ups on overall dental health.
6. Practice good nail hygiene
Most men do not give adequate attention to their nails whether hand or toe nails and yet they contribute to the first impressions when you are in public. Nails should be kept clean and short to prevent build up of bacteria and other disease causing organisms as well as to maintain a good appearance. Also apply moisturizer to you nails an cuticles according to Mayo Clinic.
Shabby and uncut nails may pose as a discomfort to your partner especially in bed as they may scratch or even cause minor cuts. There is no shame in also seeking the services of a nail tech to do the grooming of your nails if you find it hard to do.
7. Keep your hair clean and healthy
How your hair looks or how you maintain your hair is a reflection of your personal hygiene and personality. Bad hair care may cause you to be associated with certain behaviors or personalities, which may cost you.
Proper hair care can help your hair look fuller, healthier, and more manageable. You can do this through washing your hair daily, regularly cutting your hair (for some it is monthly, weekly or fortnightly depending on taste or rate of hair growth) and using hair products that make your hair healthier.
Some men like to keep their hair long, some short and their hair care routines have to be tailored to suit their needs.
8. Maintain your facial hair
As a man, facial hair is inevitable and it should be maintained well. Well-maintained facial hair can enhance your overall appearance and reduce skin irritation.
Some have more facial hair than others but the rules are the same. You should wash it daily, trim it regularly depending on the rate of growth, do not allow facial to grow to an extend of covering some parts of your face as well as disturb certain functions like eating, always make sure that you do not have either food or product residues on your beard at all times and use grooming products like beard oils if needed.
Also maintain your eyebrows and lashes as part of your facial hair.
